Hornet Baseball Falls in Midweek Road Matchup against Tigers

Emporia State strands ten runners on Tuesday; falls 3-0 against Fort Hays State

April 7, 2026 – Emporia State baseball struggled at the plate with just five hits as they fell 3-0 on the road against Fort Hays State on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets picked up the first hit of the day with one out in the top of the first, but a double play turned back Emporia State with no runs. In the bottom half, a Hornet error on the first batter proved costly as Fort Hays State converted the opportunity into an unearned run to take a 1-0 lead.

Emporia State had a similar chance in the top of the third, but a second play ended Emporia State's chances in the frame. Hornet starter Jake Khasaempanth capped a strong afternoon by holding the score at 1-0 through his 3.0 innings of work.

Fort Hays State would double their advantage in the fourth inning, as a two-out hit batter came in to score on a double as the Tigers led the Hornets 2-0.

The score remained 2-0 through the sixth, which saw the Hornets leave one runner in scoring position in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

In the seventh, Fort Hays State added insurance with a two-out double to take a 3-0 advantage over the Hornets.

Emporia State again found themselves with two runners in scoring position with two outs, but for the second time in the game, the frame ended with a line drive out on the infield.

The Hornets would put one runner on with two outs in the ninth, but were unable to mount a rally, as they fell 3-0 against the Tigers on Tuesday.
