Hornet Baseball Drops Game Two Against Lions on Saturday

Missouri Southern scores 13 with two outs; Emporia State falls 15-3 in

April 11, 2026 – Emporia State struggled offensively on Saturday, and the visiting Lions put together an eight-run seventh frame as the Hornets fell 15-3 in game two of the weekend series.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Missouri Southern jumped out in front of the Hornets in the first, scoring two runs on two hits, along with a walk and a hit batter to take the early lead. In the bottom half, Logan Myers drew a leadoff walk and Noah Steele drew his own with one out two put two runners on. Following a single to right by Nathon Cruz, the Hornets picked up a run on a sacrifice fly from Frankie Santiago to cut the deficit in half.
 
The visitors from Joplin continued to apply pressure over the next few innings, scoring one in the second, three in the fourth and another in the fifth on their way to a 7-1 advantage.
 
Emporia State went without a hit over the next four innings, before finally getting back on the board in the sixth.
 
Frankie Santiago singled with one out, and later scored on a two-run homer by Dominic Felix, his third of the season as the Hornets closed the gap to 7-3.


 
However, Missouri Southern responded with an eight-run top of the seventh, which included five hits and a pair of Hornet throwing errors. All eight runs for the Lions came with two outs, as they had 13 runs with two outs in the game.
 
Logan Myers and Dylan Brisbois both reached base with one out in the seventh before a double play sealed the game with the Hornets falling 15-3.
 
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State tallied three runs on just four hits, marking the first time since 2023 that the Hornets have recorded five or fewer hits in three straight games. Dominic Felix drove in two with his sixth-inning home run. Logan Myers reached base three times, while Felix and Noah Steele both reached base twice.
 
UP NEXT
The series finale between the Hornets and Lions is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 12 at the Trusler Sports Complex.
 
NOTES
Logan Myers scored the Hornets first-inning run, scoring the 144th run of his career, which ties TJ Racherbaumer for ninth in program history.
 
Missouri Southern's 15 runs are the most allowed by the Hornets this season.
