Hornets Drop Contest at Nationally Ranked Ouachita Baptist

Emporia State falls 4-2 to #38 Tigers

March 11, 2026-Emporia State continued their run of three straight duals against nationally ranked teams with a 4-2 loss at #38 Ouachita Baptist on Wednesday afternoon in Arkadelphia, Ark.
 
DOUBLES
The dual began with nationally ranked pairs winning their matches.  OBU's duo of Moritz Buss and Aaron Osmond, who are ranked #25 in the nation, defeated Roko Kacer and Gwendal Mazuay 6-1 at #2 doubles to open play.  Emporia State's #28 ranked pair of Anton Sarunic and Luke West answered with a 6-3 equalizer win over Yarin Aebi and Ramon Strassmann at #1 doubles. The final match went to a tiebreaker with OBU's Maximilian Brenner and Tinus Mueller defeating ESU's Diego Calvo and Duvan Santiago Torres 7-6 (10-8) to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
 
SINGLES
Ouachita Baptist took straight set wins at #1 and #2 singles to go up 3-0.  At #1 Sarunic fell 6-1, 6-2 to Strassmann while Mostafa Elbasnaly fell 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 at the #2 spot. The Tigers clinched the dual win with a 6-2, 6-3 win at #5 singles by Randoux Guillaume over Alexis Mattenberger.  The Hornets came back with three set wins at #3 and #4 by Calvo and Torres.  Calvo won 6-7 (7-9), 6-3, 6-0 at #3 over Buss while Torres earned a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win over Osmond at #4 singles.  The final match was abandoned with Kacer and Mueller tied 1-1 in the first set.
 
UP NEXT
The Hornets will play their third straight dual against a nationally ranked team as they travel to Magnolia, Ark. to take on #33 Southern Arkansas.  First serve at the Live Oaks Tennis Courts is set for 1:00 p.m.
