February 7, 2026 – A six-run sixth inning for Southeastern Oklahoma proved costly as Emporia State baseball fell 12-7 on Saturday in their final game of the Edmond First Pitch Classic.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Emporia State starter quickly retired the Savage Storm in order in the first, and the Hornets threatened in the bottom half as they put the first two batters on base before ultimately being held scoreless.
The scoring started in the second with Southeastern jumping ahead 2-0. RBI doubles by
Sammy Padilla and
Logan Myers in the bottom half tied the score back at 2-2. The Savage Storm retook the lead 3-2 in the third before Emporia State responded with two runs on RBI from
Dominic Felix and
Dylan Brisbois to take a 4-3 advantage, their first lead of the game.
Southeastern regained their advantage through the middle of the fifth with one in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 6-4 lead.
Emporia State's final lead came in the bottom of the fifth as an RBI single by Brisbois that was later followed by a two-out double by
Sammy Padilla put the Hornets ahead 7-6.
The big rally for the Savage Storm came in the sixth, as Southeastern put together six runs on three hits, one walk, and a pair of Hornet errors to jump in front 12-7.
Emporia State's big chance to mount a comeback came in the bottom of the sixth, as the Hornets promptly loaded the bases with nobody out but saw their scoring chance negated by two strikeouts and a shallow fly ball.
The Hornets managed just one hits over the final three innings as they ultimately fell to the Savage Storm 12-7.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Evan Abbott led four Hornets with multi-hit games, as he went 3-5 on the day.
Sammy Padilla went 2-4 with two doubles and a team-high three RBI.

Emporia State will travel up the Turnpike for their final nonconference action in the Washburn Invitational. The weekend will open with the Hornets taking on MSU Denver at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13 in Topeka.
