February 20, 2026-Emporia State tennis came away with a sweep of both men's and women's action on Friday afternoon against Southwest Baptist at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.

The Hornets overcame a 3-1 deficit to get the dual win over the Bearcats.Â
SBU earned the doubles point with wins at #1 and #2 while
Giulia Russu and
Ana Fatjo Coll earned the lone ESU win 6-3 at #3 doubles.
Southwest Baptist picked up wins at #3 and #1 singles around a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4) win at #2 by
Giovanna Ferreira as the Hornets faced a 3-1 deficit. Emporia State dominated 4-6 singles to get the dual win.Â
Sheriden Wichman won 6-3, 6-0 at #4 while Russu picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win at #5 and
Erin Cahill earned a 6-0, 6-3 win at #6 singles.

The Hornet men were able to cruise to a 4-1 victory over the Bearcats as the match was played to clinch due to cold temperatures in Springfield.
The teams split the first two doubles matches with SBU winning at #2 before
Luke West and
Duvan Santiago Torres picked up a 6-4 win at #3.Â
Anton Sarunic and
Diego Calvo delivered the doubles point to the Hornets with a 7-6 (7-3) win at #1 doubles.
Calvo gave the Hornets a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win at #3 singles and
Mostafa Elbasnaly made it 2-0 with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 win at the #2 position. The Bearcats picked up a thiree sit win at #1 before Santiago Torres closed out the win at #5 with a 6-0, 6-1 win.

The Emporia State women are off until March 2 when they head to Magnolia, Ark. to take on Southern Arkansas.

The win was the first for the Hornet men in the Division II era while the women's win snapped a ten match losing streak to the Bearcats dating back to 2011.
