Sunday Tie in St. Joe for Hornet Soccer Against Griffons

Emporia State and Missouri Western played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday

October 25, 2026 - Emporia State soccer quickly responded to a Missouri Western goal in the first half on Sunday, but neither team found the winner in a 1-1 tie between the Hornets and Griffons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Emporia State had the first opportunity of the afternoon, which came in the opening minute, as the Hornets had two shots with the second forcing save by the Griffon goalkeeper. The next chance came in the 18th minute and saw Missouri Western take the lead.

The Griffons attacked down the right wing and played a line drive cross into the box that was converted for the opening goal of the match.

Despite falling behind however, the Hornets responded just three minutes later. Emporia State held possession in the midfield and Ava Huston slid in a pass for Megan Kephart near the top of the box. Kephart then shuffled the ball onto her right foot to shoot past a nearby defender and beat the keeper into the bottom right corner.

The first 45 minutes came to a close with the Hornets holding an 8-2 advantage in shots, but the match remained deadlocked at 1-1.

Following the break, Terra Rybuck was forced to make a pair of saves in the first 12 minutes of the second half to keep the match level. Emporia State's first chance came in the 61st minute as an Ella Favot shot was saved. Two minutes later in the 63rd, Emporia State was fouled in the box as they earned a penalty kick. However, the opportunity would slide left of the post as the score remained tied.

Neither side would be able to pull in front over the final portion of the match, as the Hornets and Griffons settled for a 1-1 draw.

A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State held a 13-7 shot advantage over the Griffons with both teams having six shots on target. Megan Kephart scored her seventh goal of the season while Ava Huston picked up her second assist.
