January 3, 2026 – The Emporia State men played tightly contested first half on Saturday against top-ranked Washburn, before the Ichabods pulled away in the second half as the Hornets fell 91-66 on the road.
Early in the game, Washburn led by four points on multiple occasions leading up to the first media timeout at the 14:16 mark with Emporia State trailing 16-12. The Hornets hung around and after the timeout, scored six straight including four points by
Chris Harris to take their first lead at 18-16 nearly seven minutes into the game.
Following three points by the Ichabods to briefly take the lead back, Emporia State scored eight of the next ten points to build a 26-21 advantage at the 9:50 mark, which proved to be their largest lead of the game for Emporia State.
Over the final 9:50, Emporia State shot 5-11 from the floor, but seven turnovers leading up to halftime proved costly, as the Ichabods would eventually climb back in front to take a 45-39 lead into the halftime break.
Both teams shot better than 50% from the floor in the first 20 minutes, with the Hornets shooting 16-30 and 6-12 from beyond the arc.
Following the break, the offense for Washburn continued on their pace from the first half, but the Hornets' pace slowed down significantly. The Ichabods outscored the Hornets 27-10 over the first ten minutes of the second half, which included another six Emporia State turnovers.
Through the remainder of the game, the offense improved slightly for the Hornets, but Emporia State eventually fell 91-66 on the road against the top ranked Ichabods.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State shot 25-55 from the floor, after going just 9-25 in the second half. Washburn committed just eight turnovers while the Hornets struggled with 18 of their own.
Chris Harris scored 19 points to lead the Hornets, as he scored in double figures for the 11th time in 13 games this season.
