January 22, 2026 – Emporia State women's tennis was picked to finish sixth in the 2026 MIAA Women's Tennis Preseason Poll that was released today.
The Hornet women finished the 2025 season 10-10, which marked their first season since 2014 with ten or more wins. They also advanced to the MIAA Tournament for the first time since the 2022 campaign, narrowly falling 4-3 against Central Oklahoma.
Returning upperclassmen Sheridan Wichman (Sr./Topeka, Kan.) and
Giovanna Ferreira (Jr./Curitiba, Brazil) will lead the Hornets as they won five and seven singles matches respectively last season.
The women will also be a young team in 2026, as five of the eight players are in their freshmen season.
Emporia State's 2026 season will start on February 7 as they host Ottawa at 11:00 am from the Kossover Tennis Complex.
