September 19, 2025-The Emporia State women went 9-6 on the first day of the ITA Regional at Edmond Center Court on Friday.
Giovanna Ferreira had the big day for the Hornets going undefeated on the day with two wins in singles and one in doubles. She defeated Anastasia Myachina of Ouachita Baptist 6-0, 6-1 and Ines Latorre of Fort Hays State 6-0, 6-1 to advance to the round of 16 in Flight B. She teamed with
Sheriden Wichman to defeat Neb.-Kearney's Hannah Klaiber and Patricia Cechanaviciute 8-6 to make the round of 16 in the Flight A doubles.
After dropping her first match in three sets, Wichman picked up a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) win over Bethan Gill of Fort Hays State to advance to the Flight A consolation round of 16.
After receiving a bye in the round of 64,
Carla Paul Piquer defeated Kailyn Heath of Sioux Falls 6-1, 6-2 to join Ferreira in the Flight B round of 16.
Yuliya Klimova made the Flight A consolation round of 16 with a win by injury retirement while leading Lucia Hruba 4-1 in the first set.
Erin Cahill made the round of 16 in the Flight B consolation bracket with a 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) win over Emma Rangel of Sioux Falls.
The Hornets return to action on Saturday morning at Edmond Center Court for day two of the ITA Regionals hosted by Central Oklahoma.
