SOONER STATE ROAD TRIP
Following a 4-0 weekend at the Washburn Invitational, Emporia State travels south to the Sooner State for four matches against GAC opponents. The Hornets will play two matches in Edmond on Thursday, followed by two matches on Friday in Shawnee.
ABOUT THE COACHES
Ken Murczek is in his third season at Emporia State and has a 35-28 record through the first two years. Prior to Murczek's arrival in 2023, the Hornets last made a trip to the MIAA Tournament in 2018, and have made the trip in each of the first two seasons in his tenure.
Danielle Essix is 33-37 in her third season at East Central.
Josh Collins is 206-177 in his 14th season at Southwestern Oklahoma and has three 20-win seasons in his tenure with the Bulldogs.
Anna Howle is in year 18 at Oklahoma Baptist and is 412-175 in her time with the Bison.
Kevin Ingram is 455-372 at Southern Nazarene and is in his 25th season leading the Crimson Storm.
ABOUT THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 5-2 through the first two weeks of the season. Following losses against currently seventh-ranked Point Loma and Cal State-San Bernardino who is receiving votes, the Hornets have rattled off five straight entering the MIAA-GAC crossover this weekend. As a team, the Hornets are hitting .252 while holding opponents to .165 at the net. Nyia Anderson and Delainee Dexter are both averaging over two kills pert set, with Anderson leading the way with a 2.92 kills per set average and 76 kills through the first seven matches. Camilla Ossola has 46 kills on the season, while underclassmen Emma Klett, Mia Frisbie, Brooklynn Weaver and Lavra Krizanic have also made an impact. On defense, Boglarka Rady leads the way with 92 kills while Weaver, Dexter and Frisbie have all been impactful with blocks.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
East Central is 1-8 on the season in year three under Danielle Essix and have mostly struggled in the attack, hitting just .140 on the young season. However, Peyton Spahn, Falana Halatoa and Jayla Buford each average more than two kills per set.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Southwestern Oklahoma 2-6 entering the MIAA-GAC crossover with wins over McKendree and Eastern New Mexico. The Bulldogs are hitting .202 as a team and led by Paris Patterson who has 82 and is averaging 2.65 kills per set.
SCOUTING THE BISON
Oklahoma Baptist is hitting .230 as they are 7-2 through the early stages of the season. Rylee Unruh is hitting .266 with 91 kills on the season, while her and Allie Stricker are averaging 3.03 and 2.93 kills per set. Emily Boyer and Madi Barnes run the show at setter, 10.30 assists per set combined.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON STORM
Southern Nazarene is 2-5 on the season, but have lost three matches to nationally-ranked opponents. Sophomore Kate Wright has been the most impactful player in the attack for the Crimson Storm, tallying 70 kills on .264 hitting through the first seven matches.
