TOPEKA TURNAROUND
Emporia State returns from their trip to The Golden State to open the 2025 season to play four matches up the turnpike in Topeka for the Washburn Invitational. The weekend includes four matches, including the first of four against MIAA foe Newman in a non-conference match.

ABOUT THE COACHES
Ken Murczek begins his third season at Emporia State and has a 31-28 record through the first two years. Prior to Murczek's arrival in 2023, the Hornets last made a trip to the MIAA Tournament in 2018, and have made the trip to each of the first two seasons in his tenure.
Mike MacNeill
is 1-3 in his first season at Newman and previously coached for two seasons at Fresno Pacific where he posted a winning record.
David Gannon
is 28-85 in his fifth season at Truman State and is 0-1 against the Hornets.
Kari Thompson
is in year three at MSU-Moorhead and is 20-37 in her time with the Dragons.
Joe Adams
is 0-4 at William Jewell after beginning his tenure with the Cardinals last weekend.

ABOUT THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 1-2 through the first week of the season after traveling west to play in the San Diego Invite. The Hornets fell in three sets to #16 Point Loma and in five sets against (RV) CSU-San Bernardino before bouncing back with a win over Northwest Nazarene to close out the trip. In the attack, Nyia Anderson and Camilla Ossola lead the charge with 36 and 22 kills respectively. Anderson is averaging 3.00 kills per set and has double-digit kills in all three matches. Brailee Bogle and Delainee Dexter have combined for 101 assists so far, while Dexter has added 18 kills and 17 block assists. On defense, Boglarka Rady has a team-high 42 digs while Brooklynn Weaver has four solo blocks and 26 block assists through her first three career matches.

SCOUTING THE JETS
Newman is 1-3 through the first week, with their win coming against William Jewell. Hannah Tymitz, Sky Miller and Isabella Lamb are all averaging 2.50 kills per set or more through the first four matches, 

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Truman State is 1-3 to start the 2025 season after opening the year at the Pittsburg State tournament with their win coming in five sets against Southern Arkansas. Autumn Erickson and Michaela Goad are leading the Bulldogs with more than two kills per set and as a team they are hitting .181.

SCOUTING THE DRAGONS
Minnesota State-Moorhead is 4-0 to begin 2025, which includes a five-set win over (RV) Dallas Baptist down in Dallas, Texas last weekend. As a team, the Dragons are hitting .233 with a .277 percentage in their win over DBU. Brielle Riess and Raiah Mandell both have 49 kills through 17 sets and Mandell is hitting .295.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
William Jewell struggled at the Midwestern State Invite to begin the season, falling in their four matches in the Lone State State. Emma Lea Benney and Macy Bartlett were the top performers for the Cardinals, tallying 26 and 23 kills respectively last weekend.
