Hornets manage just six hits; fall 8-1 to #27 Tigers

April 9, 2025 - Emporia State baseball fell 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon against the visiting 27th-ranked Fort Hays State Tigers.

Emporia State picked up the first two hits of the game in the bottom of the first with a pair of two-out singles, but were unable to get on the board. Fort Hays State got the scoring started in the second inning and then scored a second run in the third to take a 2-1 lead over the Hornets.

The Hornet's lone run came in the bottom of the third, and the inning was highlighted by a one-out triple by Logan Myers, his first of the season. After the second out of the frame, Noah Steele delivered a single through the left side to make the score 2-1.

The Tigers scored a run in both the fourth and fifth innings to build a 4-1 lead over Emporia State. Emporia State struggled at the plate over the remainder of the game, and Fort Hays State managed to double their run total in the eighth, using two hit batters and three hits to score four runs and build an 8-1 lead.
