April 5, 2025 – Emporia State baseball attempted to mount a comeback on the road Saturday afternoon at #1 Central Missouri, but the Hornets fell 13-10 against the top-ranked Mules.
In the first two innings, the Mules scored seven runs on seven hits, including five in the second as Central Missouri jumped ahead of the Hornets 7-0. Emporia State got on the board in the third inning, scoring two runs on two hits.
Sammy Padilla scored the first run on a wild pitch and
Noah Steele drove in the second run with a two-out single.
Emporia State kept the Mules off the board in the bottom half and added another run in the top of the fourth.
Logan Myers drove in
Konner Hatfield with an RBI groundout to make the score 7-3.
Central Missouri answered back with six runs over the next three innings, and despite a solo home run by Steele in the fifth, the Hornets trailed 13-4 heading to the seventh.
The Hornets rallied in the seventh, scoring six runs on four hits, four walks and Mules error as they eventually brought the go-ahead run to the plate.
Sammy Padilla started the inning with a sac fly and after a wild pitch, back-to-back walks by
Elijah Reeves and
Logan Myers made the score 13-6. Following a pitching change made by the Mules, a throwing error resulted in two more runs, making the score 13-8.
TJ Racherbaumer drew the third walk of the inning and one of his two in the game to load the bases and Steele again delivered, this time with a two RBI single to trim the deficit to 13-10.
Cooper Schwindt would walk to load the bases and bring the go-ahead run to the plate, but the Hornets would leave the bases loaded, trailing 13-10.
Trent Warstler, who entered the game in the sixth, put together a strong relief outing as he kept Central Missouri off the board in the seventh and eighth innings to keep the score at 13-10.
Emporia State would reach base to lead off the ninth but were unable to bring the tying run to the plate as the Hornets fell 13-10 on Saturday.
Noah Steele went 4-6 with four RBI, his second game this season with four RBI and ninth game with multiple RBI.
Dominic Felix had two hits while
Logan Myers drove in two runs and reached base three times.
Game two between the Hornets and Mules is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 6.
