April 17, 2025-The Emporia State women's tennis team evened their record with a 5-2 win at Missouri Western on Thursday afternoon and in the process moved closer to securing a berth in the MIAA Tournament.

The Hornets had to come from behind after dropping two of the three doubles matches.
Paige Stranghoner and
Andrea Santiago Sanchez won the first match for Emporia State with a 6-1 victory over Missouri Western's Kyleigha Fenwick and Elli Messenger at #3 doubles. The Griffons came back to take other two doubles with Celia Castano and Johanna Priedite defeating
Lilie Bizouerne and
Perla Conde 7-5 at #2 before Cristina Granero Bog and Elena Rey-Garcia captured the point with a 6-4 win at #1 doubles over ESU's
Yuliya Klimova and
Anastasia Pesic.

Andrea Santiago Sanchez did not drop a game on the way to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Fenwick at #6 singles while Stranghoner only lost one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win at #5 to put the Hornets on top 2-1. Perla made it 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Castano at #3. The Griffons got their only singles point when #45 Granero Boj won 6-1, 6-1 over Giovanna Ferriera at #1 singles. Bizouerne clinched the dual win with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at #4 before Klimova closed it out with a 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 1-0 (10-8) win at #2 singles.

The Hornets will stay on the road as they travel to #49 Northwest Missouri on Saturday. First serve from the Frank Grube Courts in Maryville, Mo. is set for 1:00 p.m.
