April 13, 2025-The #40 Emporia State men's tennis team took another step towards making their first MIAA/GAC Tournament since 2019 with a 6-1 win over Augustana on Sunday afternoon at the Kossover Family Tennis Complex.

The Hornets jumped in front early by sweeping the doubles competition.Â
Hachem Fahem and
Roko Kacer got the first win with a 6-3 win at #3 doubles. Emporia State clinched the first point with a win at #1 between a pair of nationally ranked doubles teams.Â
Alexis Mattenberger and
Gwendal Mazuay, who are ranked #45 in the nation, posted a 7-6 (7-2) win over #21 Henry Dornbusch and Conrad Koch to take a 1-0 lead.Â
Anton Sarunic and
Luke West finished out the doubles sweep with a 7-6 (7-0) win at the #2 position.

Singles started with a top 25 battle between #17 Sarunic and #25 Dornbusch. Dornbusch evened the dual for the Vikings with a 7-5, 6-0 win at #1 singles.Â
Mostafa Elbasnaly put the Hornets back on top with a 7-0, 7-5 win at #2 singles before
Diego Calvo won 6-4, 6-3 at #4 to give Emporia State a 3-1 lead. Mattenberger clinched the dual win with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win at #3 singles. The Hornets closed out the dual with a 6-1, 6-3 win by
Duvan Santiago Torres at #6 and a 6-6, 6-3 win by Fahem at #5 singles.

With the win, Emporia State improves to 10-5 on the year and 2-2 in the MIAA. Their next action will be on Friday, April 18 when they travel to Northwest Missouri for their final MIAA/GAC North Division dual. First serve from the Frank Grube Courts in Maryville, Mo. is set for 1:00 p.m.
