March 25, 2025-Emporia State opened MIAA play with a 4-3 win over Newman on Tuesday afternoon at the Kossover Family Tennis Complex.

Lilie Bizouerne and
Perla Conde got the Hornets started with a 6-4 win at #2 doubles. Emporia State then picked up a pair of tie break wins to sweep the doubles point.
Yuliya Klimova and
Anastasia Pesic clinched the point with a 7-6 (7-1) win at #3 followed closely by a 7-6 (7-4) win at #1 doubles by
Andrea Santiago and
Paige Stranghoner.

Pesic put the Hornets up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at #5 singles before Newman finally got on the board with a win at #4. Bizouerne made it 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at #3 singles. The final three singles matches all went to a third set with Perla clinching the dual with a come from behind 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 win at #2 singles. The Jets were able to pick up three set wins at #6 and #1 to finish up the dual.

Emporia State will be back in action on Friday, March 28 when they play host to Central Oklahoma. First serve from the Kossover Family Tennis Complex is set for 2:00 p.m.

With the win Emporia State snapped a five dual losing streak to the Jets dating back to 2017.
