Hornets Unable to Contain #24 Tigers in Midweek Matchup

Emporia State falls 15-5 in seven innings; Hornets hit three homers on Tuesday

March 25, 2025 – Emporia State baseball struggled to contain the Tiger bats on Tuesday as four home runs for Fort Hays State hurt the Hornets in a 15-5 loss on the road.
 
The Hornets tallied the first hit of the game, a two-out single by TJ Racherbaumer in the first but were kept off the board. Fort Hays State took the lead in the bottom half as a two-out home run by Woolwine put the Tigers ahead 2-0.
 
In the third, Woolwine homered again, doubling the Fort Hays State lead to 4-0. The Hornets responded in the fourth, pulling back level with the Tigers. Following a leadoff triple from Racherbaumer, Noah Steele homered to cut the lead in half. Cooper Schwindt went back-to-back with Steele for his fifth homer of the season, cutting the deficit to 4-3. Fort Hays State was able to get the first out of the inning, before Jovanni Toledo delivered the third homer of the inning as Emporia State tied the game 4-4.
 
The Tigers responded in the bottom of the fourth, tallying three runs on two hits as Fort Hays State led 7-4.
 
Emporia State managed just one hit over the next three innings, and the Tigers used four hits, including two grand slams to help grab the 15-5 win over the Hornets on Tuesday.
 
TJ Racherbaumer went 2-3 for his seventh multi-hit game this season while Noah Steele, Cooper Schwindt and Jovanni Toledo each hit a home run.
 
The Hornets will be back in action on Friday, March 28 as they travel to Joplin, Mo. to begin a three-game series against Missouri Southern. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
