Saturday Struggle for Hornet Baseball in Loss to Bronchos

Emporia State manages just six hits; falls 10-0 against Central Oklahoma in home opener

March 1, 2025 – Emporia State struggled offensively and was unable to contain Central Oklahoma as the Hornets fell to the Bronchos 10-0 in seven innings on Saturday afternoon.

In the first, Central Oklahoma quickly jumped in front, getting a leadoff triple from Randall which eventually led to two runs for the Bronchos in their first at-bat. A trio of groundouts in the bottom half retired the Hornets in order.

The Bronchos added two more in the second as they used three singles and a squeeze bunt to double their advantage to 4-0. Emporia State put their first two runners on base, as Cooper Schwindt drew a walk, followed by an infield single by Dominic Felix. The inning was ended by a double play as the Hornets still trailed 4-0.

Central Oklahoma continued to boost their lead in the third, as a pair of Hornet fielding errors aided the Bronchos to another run, increasing their advantage to 5-0. The Bronchos continued to expand on their lead through the sixth inning, adding three in the fourth and one in the fifth and sixth frames, as the lead for the visitors swelled to 10-0.

Emporia State went down in order in the sixth, and nearly extended the game with a rally in the seventh. Peyton Lewis opened the seventh with a pinch-hit single and after stealing second, advanced to third on a single by Sammy Padilla. The Hornets were unable to push Lewis across, as the Bronchos sealed the 10-0 win in seven innings.

The Hornets managed just six hits in the game. Logan Myers had a hit and two stolen bases.

Emporia State will be back in action against the Bronchos on Sunday, March 2 with first pitch from Trusler Sports Complex scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
