THE EYES OF TEXAS
The Emporia State tennis teams travel to the Lone Star State to take on Metro State-Denver and Lubbock Christian this weekend.
 
QUICK LOOK AT THE HORNETS
The Emporia State men are 4-0 on the season.
The Hornets are led by Anton Sarunic who is 10-3 overall this year with a 2-1 mark this spring against four year players in dual competition at the #1 slot. He is ranked #45 in the latest individual singles rankings.  Mostafa Elbasnaly is 10-3 overall with a 4-0 record in spring duals with two wins at #2 and a win each at #1 and #3 singles.  Alexis Mattenberger is also 10-3 overall with a 4-0 mark in duals, with two wins coming at the #6 position, one at #5 and one at the #3 slot. Diego Calvo is 10-3 overall with a 2-0 mark at the #4 singles position this spring. Duvan Santiago Torres is 7-4 overall and has gone 2-0 this spring with wins at #2 and #4 singles.
Mattenberger and Gwendal Mazuay are 4-0 at #3 doubles in the spring  with three wins at #3 and one at the #2 position while Elbasnaly and Hachem Fahem are 3-0 in doubles this spring at the #2 spot.
 
The Emporia State women are 3-0 on the season. 
Lilie Bizouerne is 3-0 this spring with two wins at #3 and a win at #4 singles. Giovanna Ferreira is 2-1 at #1 singles while Yuliya Kilmova is 2-1 at the #2 spot. Anastasia Pesic, Paige Stranghoner and Sheriden Wichman are all 2-0 playing in the #4-6 slots.  
The women have used six different doubles combinations this spring with Bizouerne and Stranghoner the only pair to pair up in all three duals, going 2-1 at the #1 position.

KNOW THE FOE
The MSU-Denver men are 3-4 overall with two of their losses against MIAA foe Neb.-Kearney. Lluc Limongi Ollers is 8-3 overall for the Roadrunners and has won three straight at the #1 slot.
The Lubbock Christian men are 7-1 overall and have won six straight against Division II opposition. They have three wins against MIAA/GAC North Division teams with two against Neb.-Kearney and one over Augustana. Pablo Segura is 18-5 overall on the year.

The MSU-Denver women are 4-4 overall. They have gone 2-2 against the MIAA with wins over Newman and Fort Hays State last fall and losses to Neb.-Kearney in the fall and spring. Hanna Haber is their top player with a 4-5 overall mark with a 2-2 mark this spring.
The Lubbock Christian women are 6-2 on the year with one of the losses to Neb.-Kearney. Anastasiia Opolska is 12-4 to lead the Lady Chaps

LAST SERVES
The Emporia State men improved to 4-0 on the year with a 7-0 win over Sterling on Saturday at the Kossover Family Tennis Center.  It is their second consecutive sweep and third in four regular season matches this spring.
The Hornets won all three doubles matches by 6-2 scores.  Anton Sarunic and Luke West won at #1, Hachem Fahem and Mostafa Elbasnaly took #2 and Gwendal Mazuay and Alexis Mattenberger won at the #3 slot. 
Sarunic got singles play started with a 6-1, 6-3 win at #1 followed by a 6-2, 6-4 win at #2 by Elbasnaly.  Fahem clinched the dual win for Emporia State with a 6-3, 6-3 win at #3 singles.  Duvan Santiago Torres win 6-1, 6-2 at #4 while Mattenberger won at #5 with the same score.  Mazuay wrapped up the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #6 singles.
The Emporia State  women's tennis team picked up a 5-1 exhibition win over Seward County CC on Sunday at the Kossover Family Tennis Center.
The combo of Sheriden Wichman and Paige Stranghoner won 6-2 at #2 doubles while the #1 pairing of Perla Conde and Lilie Bizouerne took a 6-3 victory to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.
The Saints only had five players so ESU started singles play with a 2-0 lead. Yuliya Klimova put the Hornets up 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win at #2 singles before Seward got on the board with a 6-4, 6-2 win at #1 singles. Perla Conde clinched the win with 6-0, 6-2 victory at #3 followed by a 6-3, 6-0 win at #4 singles by Lilie Bizouerne.  Anastasia Pesic closed out the dual with a 6-4, 4-6 1-0 (10-7) win at #5 singles for Emporia State.

UP NEXT
Both teams return to Emporia next weekend to take on William Jewell and Rockhurst at the Kossover Family Tennis Center.
