STAYING WARM AT KOSSOVER
The Emporia State tennis teams continue to take advantage of the indoor courts at the Kossover Family Tennis Complex with three home matches this weekend. The Hornet men play host to Friends and Sterling while the women play an exhibition match against Seward County CC.
 
QUICK LOOK AT THE HORNETS
The Emporia State men are 2-0 on the season and receiving votes in the first ITA NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll of the spring.
The Hornets are led by Anton Sarunic who is 9-3 overall this year with a 1-1 mark this spring against four year players in dual competition at the #1 slot.  Mostafa Elbasnaly is 8-3 overall with a 2-0 record in spring duals  with a win at #2 and #3 singles.  Alex Mattenberger is also 8-3 overall with a 2-0 mark in duals, with both wins coming at the #6 position. Diego Calvo is 10-3 overall with a 2-0 mark at the #4 singles position this spring.
Elbasnaly and Hachem Fahem are 2-0 in doubles this spring at the #2 spot while Mattenberger and Gwendal Mazuay are 2-0 at #3 doubles in the spring.
 
The Emporia State women are 3-0 on the season. 
Lilie Bizouerne is 3-0 this spring with two wins at #3 and a win at #4 singles. Giovanna Ferreira is 2-1 at #1 singles while Yuliya Kilmova is 2-1 at the #2 spot. Anastasia Pesic, Paige Stranghoner and Sheriden Wichman are all 2-0 playing in the #4-6 slots.  
The women have used six different doubles combinations this spring with Bizouerne and Stranghoner the only pair to pair up in all three duals, going 2-1 at the #1 position.

KNOW THE FOE
The Friends men will be making their spring debut against the Hornets on Friday. The Falcons were 5-9 last year with a 5-6 mark in KCAC play.
The Sterling men are 1-0 this spring after defeating a short handed Austin College 5-0 in Sherman Texas on February 15.  They were 9-7, 8-3 in the KCAC last season.
The Seward County CC women are 1-2 with the losses coming to NCAA Division II Angelo State and Division I New Mexico State.

LAST SERVES
The Emporia State men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Springfield, Mo. on Sunday and both came away with victories over Drury.  The Hornet men won 4-3 over the #23 Panthers while the women captured a 5-2 win over Drury.
The Hornet men started off with a lead after taking the first two doubles matches.  Mostafa Elbasnaly and Hachem Fahem won 6-2 at #2 while Gwendal Mazuay and Alexis Mattenberger captured a 6-3 win at #3 to secure the opening point.
The Panthers evened the match when Yaroslav Sharyy defeated Anton Sarunic 6-2, 6-4 at #1 singles.  Elbasnaly put the Hornets back on top with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Jesus Gonzalez at #2 singles.  Mattenberger made it 3-1 Hornets with a 6-1, 6-4 win at #6 singles over Alejandro Esquivel.  Diego Calvo clinched the win for Emporia State with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at #4 singles over Lukas Rieber.
The Emporia State women got wins at #2 and #3 doubles to get out to a 1-0 lead.  Perla Conde and Sheriden Wichman won 6-4 at #2 while Yuliya Klimova and Anastasia Pesic picked up a 6-4 win at #3 doubles.
Drury got wins at #1 and #2 singles but the Hornets won the other four matches for the 5-2 dual win.  Lilie Bizouerne and Anastasia Pesic each won 6-4, 6-2 with Bizouerne winning at #4 and Pesic at #5 singles. Conde got a 6-3, 7-6 (4) win over Antanina Novik at #3 singles while Paige Stranghoner won 6-3, 7-5 at #6 over Eliana Weichel.

UP NEXT
Both teams will travel to Lubbock, Texas for a pair of matches next weekend.  The Hornets will take on Metro State-Denver on Friday, February 28 in neutral site duals before playing host Lubbock Christian on Saturday, March 1 at the Penny Gullo Tennis Center
