Second Straight 100 Point Game for the Hornet Men in Win over Sterling

Emporia State takes down Warriors 101-58 on Wednesday night; Treyvon Taylor leads Hornets with career-high 18 points

December 17, 2025 – The Hornet men scored 100 points for the second straight on their way to a 101-58 win over Sterling on Wednesday night from White Auditorium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Emporia State and Sterling got off to a modest start over the first four minutes, with the score tied 9-9 at the 16:15 mark of the first half. Over the next eight minutes, the Hornets put together a 29-7 scoring run, which included nine points from Treyvon Taylor and eight points by Jack Weigus to build a 38-16 lead. The offense for Sterling picked up over the final eight minutes, but Emporia State never slowed leading up to the break, as they held a halftime lead of 57-33 over the Warriors.
 
In the first half, the Hornets shot 23-40 from the floor and 7-16 from three. Treyvon Taylor shot 5-7 and 2-2 from three while scoring 15 points. Jack Weigus added ten first-half points of his own.
 
After the break, the Hornets outscored the Warriors just 11-9 leading up to the first media timeout with 14:46 remaining. However, over the next five minutes, Emporia State expanded their lead, outscoring Sterling 16-3 and building an 82-47 advantage.
 
Over the final ten minutes, would add 19 more to their total, surpassing 100 points on their final shot to cap off a 101-58 win over Sterling on Wednesday night.
 
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State shot just north of 50% from the floor in the game (41-81), while also making 13 threes. The Hornets held a significant rebounding advantage, with 53 boards to just 35 for the Warriors. Emporia State also outscored Sterling 56-10 in the paint.
 
Treyvon Taylor had a team-high 18 points, which doubled as a career-high for the freshman. Jack Weigus had 16 points and Devin Conley added 13 of his own.

The final game for the Hornet men before the break will be on the road on Saturday, December 20 as they take on Rockhurst. Tipoff between Emporia State and the Hawks is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
