Lady Hornets Come Away With 74-64 Win Over Lincoln on Sunday

Gilpin with 21 points to lead Emporia State scorers

December 14, 2025-The Lady Hornets built a 19 point lead in the third quarter on the way to a 74-64 win over Lincoln on Sunday afternoon in White Auditorium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team took more of a one possession lead in the opening quarter that saw five ties and four lead changes. Gracie Gilpin hit a three to end the first quarter and another to open the second to give Emporia State the lead for good. It was part of an overall 16-3 run that saw the Lady Hornets take a 31-20 lead with 4:16 left in the first half. Laini Joseph hit a jumper at the buzzer for the Blue Tigers to pull them within 38-30 at the break.
Bella Borgas hit three three-pointers in the first three minutes of the third quarter to get the Blue Tigers within five at 44-39.  The Lady Hornets scored the next 14 points to take the biggest lead of the night at 58-39.  Kaitlyn Sanders started the run with a three pointer followed by back to back threes from Gilpin. Macey Gandee scored on an old fashioned three-point play and Katiya Casey hit two free throws with 1:59 left to give Emporia State a 19 point lead.  Lincoln broke the run with a pair of free throw with 37 seconds left and ESU took a 58-41 lead into the final quarter.
The Lady Hornets were held without a field goal for over eight minutes but the Blue Tigers could only cut the lead to 13. Vanessa Coleman drove baseline and scored with 5:00 left in the fourth quarter to give Emporia State a 64-49 lead. Lincoln used a 7-0 run, with five points coming from the free throw line, to trim the ESU lead to 64-56 with 4:03 left.  In the next 60 seconds Gilpin hit a three-pointer and then scored off an assist from Kaylin Noonan to give the Lady Hornets a 69-56 lead.  Emporia State hit five of seven free throws in the final 2:12 to ice the win.
 
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Gracie Gilpin led Emporia State with 21 points and hit five of eight three-pointers. She was joined in double figures by Kaitlyn Sanders with 18 points. Macey Gandee and Micah Hannah each scored nine points with Gandee tying her career high with 11 rebounds. Kaylin Noonan had a game high 13  boards for the Lady Hornets.
There were 51 fouls called in the game with twenty coming in the fourth quarter. 
 
UP NEXT
Emporia State will play host to Bellevue on Wednesday, December 17 in game one of a split doubleheader with the Hornet men.  Tip-off for the Lady Hornets is set for 5:30 p.m.
