Emporia State completes season sweep of Fort Hays State in four sets

November 7, 2025 - Emporia State volleyball bounced back from dropping set one on the road to take the match against Fort Hays State in four sets. With the win over the Tigers, the Hornets completed the season sweep while also winning their 19th match of the season, the most since winning 20 matches in the 2012 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set one was controlled by the Tigers, as Fort Hays State hit .429 and took the opening frame 25-17 over the Hornets. Emporia State hit just .195 in the set. In set two, the script was flipped by the Hornets, as they limited the Tigers to just .077 hitting at the net on their way to a 25-18 win to even the match 1-1.

Fort Hays State held an early advantage in set three, leading the Hornets 12-8 midway through the frame. Following a 7-2 scoring run by the Hornets, Emporia State took a 15-14 lead to force a Tiger timeout. The set remained close throughout, but Emporia State pulled away enough at the end to take set three 25-22 for the 2-1 lead in the match.

Set four was mostly controlled by the Hornets, as they led 13-8 midway through the set to force a timeout from the Tigers. After the timeout, Emporia State continued to pull away, eventually leading by as much as 21-12. Fort Hays State trimmed the deficit late, but the Hornets held on for a 25-19 set four win to seal the 3-1 win in the match.
