November 22, 2025 – The Lady Hornets and Miners were tied 66-66 with just over three minutes remaining before an 8-0 scoring run by Emporia State propelled the Lady Hornets to a 78-72 win over their former MIAA foe. With the win over the Miners, Emporia State has now won 19 straight matchups with Missouri S&T.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Emporia State and Missouri S&T traded baskets throughout the first quarter, with the largest lead for either team being the Lady Hornets holding a 14-10 advantage. After the Miners, took a 15-14 lead, the Hornets scored five of the final six to take a 19-16 lead into the second.
In the second, the momentum continued for the Lady Hornets, as they built a 29-19 lead. Missouri S&T responded over the final four minutes of the first half, outscoring Emporia State 13-6 to trim the lead to just 35-32 entering halftime.
Over the first 20 minutes, Emporia State shot just 12-33 while Missouri S&T was 10-38 from the floor.
After halftime, the Lady Hornets struggled, shooting just 5-17 from the floor, while the Miners shot nearly 50% on their way to taking a 51-50 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the final frame, the two teams traded points to start, with Missouri S&T leading 65-62 with just under six minutes remaining. Over the next five minutes, Emporia State put together a 12-1 scoring run, that included eight of a game-high 24 points by
Kaitlyn Sanders, as the Lady Hornets led 74-66 with 39 seconds remaining.
Sanders and Gilpin both made a pair of free throws in the final 17 seconds to close out a 78-72 win in the home opener.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Kaitlyn Sanders led all scorers with 24 points on 8-14 shooting with a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line.
Macey Gandee and
Gracie Gilpin joined Sanders in double-figures with 12 and 11 respectively. Gandee and
Makenzie McDaniel both led the way with seven rebounds.

Emporia State will return to action on Tuesday, November 25 for their second of three straight games from White Auditorium. The Lady Hornets will take on Quincy with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
