#24 Emporia State Volleyball Falls in MIAA Tournament to #8 UCO

Hornets drop 33-31, 25-18, 25-21 match to Bronchos

November 20, 2025-The #24 Emporia State volleyball team had five set points in the opening frame before falling in extra points as #8 Central Oklahoma advanced with a 33-31, 25-18, 25-21 victory in the opening round of the MIAA Tournament.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team took more than a three point lead in the opening set as the Bronchos took a 33-31 win to open the match. The Hornets had five set points the last coming at 27-26 before fighting off four Broncho set points.  UCO would finally get the win when Lavra Krizanic was called in the net and it was upheld after a challenge.
UCO jumped out to a 6-0 lead and led 10-3 to start the second set. ESU closed to within 10-7 before the Bronchos scored the next to and regain a five points lead.  The Hornets would not get closer than four points the rest of the set as the Bronchos won 25-18 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Hornets opened the third set with a 6-3 run only to see the Bronchos come back to tie the set at 7-7. The teams traded points until UCO put together back to back points to take a 10-9 lead.  Neither team could get more than a one point lead until Emporia State went on a 4-0 run capped by a solo block from Mia Frisbie that forced the Bronchos to call their second timeout. ESU led 18-15 when UCO went on a 3-1 run to force the Hornets into their first timeout of the set.  The Bronchos would score two points out of the timeout to take their first lead of the set at 20-19 as Emporia State called their final timeout. UCO ended the match on a 9-2 run to take a 25-21 victory and advance to the MIAA semifinals.
 
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Camilla Ossola had a three set career high with 13 kills on .522 hitting. She was joined in double figures by Lavra Krizanic with ten kills. 
 
NOTES
Emporia State improved by four wins over last season and have seen a four win increase in wins in each of the last two years.
