SHOW ME STATE SWING
Emporia State volleyball makes their lone road trip into the Show Me State this season as they take on Northwest Missouri and #23 Missouri Western.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets traveled up the Turnpike for round two of the Turnpike Tussle against Washburn, who was slotted at #2 in the AVCA Poll. Emporia State struggled throughout the match, which included allowing 12 aces to the Ichabods, as Washburn took down the Hornets in three sets. The Hornets still managed to hit .259 in the match, with Emma Klett leading the way as she hit .417 with ten kills. In the middle, Mia Frisbie had four kills and four blocks, marking her 11th match with four or more total blocks this season.

TOUGH TESTS CONTINUE

Emporia State adds another ranked matchup to their resume this weekend, as a road test against #23 Missouri Western on Saturday follows a Friday night match against Northwest Missouri.

ABOUT THE COACHES
Ken Murczek
is in his third season at Emporia State and has a 47-30 record through the first two years. Prior to Murczek's arrival in 2023, the Hornets last made a trip to the MIAA Tournament in 2018, and have made the trip in each of the first two seasons in his tenure.
Amy Woerth
is 224-159 in her 14th season at Northwest Missouri.
Jessica Fey
is 71-41 in her fourth season at Missouri Western.

ABOUT THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 17-4 this season, with an 8-2 MIAA record. The Hornets have deployed a balanced offensive attack so far this season, as four players are averaging two kills per set or more. Nyia Anderson leads the way with 217 kills and is averaging 3.06 kills per set. Lavra Krizanic is next with 2.57 kills per set. Camilla Ossola has the highest hitting percentage among outside hitters at .244 and she earned MIAA Athlete of the Week honors after her performances against Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western to open MIAA action. She was joined in recognition by Mia Frisbie, who has excelled in the middle this season. Frisbie has 11 solo blocks and 67 block assists. Brooklynn Weaver, Lavra Krizanic, Emma Klett and Delainee Dexter have also made sizable impacts in the attack. Dexter has also been instrumental in the Hornets deploying a 6-2 rotation along with junior setter Brailee Bogle. Bogle and Dexter are combining for 10.54 assists per set this season.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFONS
Missouri Western is 16-5 this season and tied with Emporia State and Nebraska-Kearney at 8-2 in MIAA action. The Griffons earned a #23 ranking in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll released earlier this week. The attack for Missouri Western is led by a trio of upperclassmen in Taylor Russell, Emma Salker and Noelle Sutcliffe who all average 2.45 kills per set or more. Similar to the Hornets, the Griffons roll out two setters with regularity, as Hayley Barsky and Katelyn Diani-O'Day combined for more than twelve assists per set. The trio of Russell, Salker and Trista Marx also impact things defensively, with all three having at least 45 total blocks so far this season.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Northwest Missouri is 8-11 so far this season, with just a 2-8 record in the MIAA. The bearcats off a season where they went 16-12 and finished 9-7 in the MIAA alongside Emporia State in 2024. As a team, the Bearcats are allowing just a .183 opponent hitting percentage, while hitting .200 on their own. Kasidy Mohwinkle is leading the charge for the Bearcats in attack, hitting .266 and averaging 3.03 kills per set this season. At setter, Ella Caffery is fourth in the MIAA with 10.02 assists per set.
