Hornet Volleyball Wraps Up Kansas City Classic With Sweep Over Winona State

Emporia State takes down Warriors 3-0 on Saturday afternoon; Bogle and Jackman named all-tournament team

September 7, 2024 – Emporia State Volleyball capped off the Kansas City Classic with a three-set win over Winona State on Saturday afternoon in Liberty, Mo.
 
The Hornets jumped out to an early 8-3 lead over Winona State, who was receiving votes in the AVCA Preseason Poll, in the first set. After the Warriors trimmed the lead to 13-9 midway through the set, Emporia State outscored Winona State 12-7 to clinch the first set 25-16.
 
Emporia State once again built an early lead, taking a 7-3 advantage. Winona State rallied after the early run, taking a 16-15 lead against the Hornets. Emporia State answered back, scoring six of the next eight points before closing out the set 25-22 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
For the third consecutive set, the Hornets took an early advantage and used the momentum to lead by as much eight points on three occasions in the set. Emporia State held 15-7, 19-11 and 23-15 leads before clinching the set 25-16 and the match 3-0 over the Warriors.
 
Emporia State hit .267 as a team and limited Winona State to just 25 kills and a .051 hitting percentage. Rayishon Jackman had a match-high 19 kills while Jacquelyn Robinson and Mia Frisbie and eight and six kills respectively. Brailee Bogle tallied 32 assists with seven digs while Sydney Fiatte had a team-high 11 digs.
 
Brailee Bogle and Rayishon Jackman were both named the Kansas City Classic All-Tournament Team. Bogle totaled 145 assists through four matches and Jackman had 72 kills and averaged 5.14 kills per set in the tournament.
 
The Hornets will be back in action on on Friday, September 13 as they open the Tiger Classic in Hays, Kan. against Truman State. First serve is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
