Emporia State continues their early slate of tournaments with trip to Hays, Kan. for the Tiger Classic. The Hornets prepare for matchups with Truman State, UC-Colorado Springs, and Northwestern Oklahoma.
ABOUT THE COACHES
Ken Murczek is in his second season at Emporia State and has a 16-17 record. In his first season at the helm, the Hornets improved their overall win total by nine games and conference win total by six games as they made a trip to the MIAA Tournament. Murczek will be meeting all three teams this weekend for the first time.Â
David Gannon is in his fourth season at Truman State and has a 21-64 record with the Bulldogs.
Tara Hittle is in her third season at UC-Colorado Springs and has a 25-31 record with the Mountain Lions.
Jon Bingesser is in his third season at Northwestern Oklahoma has a 29-35 record with the Rangers.
ABOUT THE HORNETS
Emporia State went 3-1 in the first weekend at the Kansas City Classic, which included a sweep over (RV) Winona State. Seven Hornets tallied double-digit kills through the first weekend, including Rayishon Jackman and Weronika Wrzesinska who had 72 and 39 kills respectively. Jackman is averaging 5.14 kills per set, which ranks sixth in the nation and first in the MIAA. Wrzesinska's average of 2.79 per set ranks 19th in the MIAA. Brailee Bogle has 145 assists and is averaging 10.36 assists per set, which is fourth in the MIAA and 32nd in the nation. On the defensive side, Mia Frisbie, McKenya Sorrells and Lillian Zeigler each have double-digit blocks through the first weekend while Sydney Fiatte is leading the Hornets with 51 digs.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Truman State is 0-4 after opening the season with four matches at the Maverick Invite in Mankato, MN. The Bulldogs had two losses come in five sets and have been led offensively by Michaela Goad and Jessica Proszenyak who have 45 and 40 kills respectively. On the defensive side, three players have double-digit blocks, including Makayla Way who has a team-high 13.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAIN LIONS
UC-Colorado Springs is 4-0 through the first weekend as they hosted the Mountain Lion Classic and featured two wins over MIAA foes Fort Hays State and Arkansas-Fort Smith. The Mountain Lions are led offensively by Emily Pruitt and Payton Tompkins who are both averaging over three kills per set. Audrey Dowd has 106 assists at 6.63 assists per set while Maylen Mitrovich is adding 3.88 assists per set of her own. On defense, Avery Ahlers has 17 total blocks, including four solo blocks.
SCOUTING THE RANGERS
Northwestern Oklahoma is 1-3 to start the season following a trip to Wichita Falls, TX for the Midwestern State Classic. The Rangers swept the opening match against Adams State before falling in three straight, with two coming in four sets. Northwestern Oklahoma's attack is led by Macy Shreffler who has 39 kills through the first weekend. On defense, Mariela Jimenez and Carmae Jones both have double-digit blocks and have combined for eight solo blocks.
