April 29, 2024 – Emporia State took an early lead against Newman but could not hold off the Jets as the Hornets dropped their season finale 8-3 at Glennen Field.

Seth Stover retired Newman to open the game and the Hornets quickly jumped in front in the bottom half.
Logan Myers,
Kadyn Williams and
TJ Racherbaumer strung together three consecutive singles to begin the frame. Myers scored on a double play and a fielding error by Newman brought in Williams as Emporia State led 2-0.
Following a silent second inning, Newman broke through in the third, grabbing four runs on five hits as the Jets took a 4-2 advantage. Emporia State cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third, as
Logan Myers homered to left field, his seventh of the season, as the Hornets trailed 4-3 through three innings.
Both teams were held scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings, despite the Hornets getting leadoff hits by
Joe Daneff and
TJ Racherbaumer. Newman added to their lead in the sixth, as they got home runs from Joe Kinneberg and Blake Mitchell to lead 7-3 over the Hornets. The Jets again added to their total in the seventh as a double play brought in a run and Emporia State trailed 8-3 down to their last nine outs.
The Hornets managed just one hit over the final three frames, as they chance at a late rally slipped past as Emporia State dropped their season finale 8-3.
At the plate, Emporia State managed just seven hits with
Logan Myers and
TJ Racherbaumer each tallying two of their own with Myers recording the lone RBI on his third inning home run.
Mason Sturdy reached base twice, his third consecutive game reaching base multiple times.
Emporia State finishes the season 21-29 and 11-22 in MIAA action in the first season under head coach
