Senior Day Sweep for Emporia State men's tennis over Baker

Hornets roll to 7-0 win over Wildcats

April 14, 2024-The Emporia State men swept Baker on Senior Day at the Kossover Family Tennis Center on a warm Sunday afternoon.
 
After an opening ceremony that recognized the four Hornet seniors Harrison Brown, Hachem Fahem, Lleyton Fosha and Sergio Vera Martin prior to the match, Emporia State quickly won the double point.  A pair of 6-0 wins at #3 by Fahem and Fosha followed by Brown and Mostafa Elbasnaly at #2 secured the point.  Anton Sarunic teamed with Vera Martin to win 6-3 at #1 and give ESU a sweep in doubles.
 
Singles play was quick as well as Emporia State did not drop a set and Baker was able to win over two games in just one of the 12 sets.  Brown started things with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #4, while Elbasnaly won 6-1, 6-2 at #2 and Sarunic picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at #1 singles.  Vera Martin then clinched the dual victory with a 6-4, 6-2 win at #3 singles.  Fahme won 6-2, 6-0 at #5 and Fosha closed out the dual with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6 singles.
 
The next action for the Hornet men will be an exhibition dual against Cowley CC on Friday, April 19 in Arkansas City, Kan.  The next regular season dual will be the MIAA/GAC North Division finale against Washburn on Wednesday, April 24 at the Kossover Family Tennis Center in Emporia.
 
NOTES:
The Hornets are now 10-7 on the season, their first ten win season since going 11-7 in 2018.
