April 12, 2024 – Emporia State baseball struggled to keep pace with #2 Central Missouri on Friday night as the Hornets dropped the series opener 21-7 at Trusler Sports Complex.
Central Missouri wasted little time as they opened the game with six runs on six hits in the top of the first. The first run for Emporia State came in the bottom half as
Logan Myers led off the home half with a solo home run to left field, his fifth of the season. After a scoreless second frame for both teams, the Mules exploded for seven more runs in the third. Central Missouri had four hits and four walks in the inning as their lead swelled to 13-1.
Following three more runs for the Jennies in the top of the fourth, Emporia State picked up three of their own in the bottom half. With one out,
TJ Racherbaumer homered for the fourth time this season.
Jovanni Toledo followed the Racherbaumer home run with a single up the middle and then came around to score on a homer by
Konner Hatfield, his third of the season.
Both teams picked up a run in the fifth inning with the Mules leading the Hornets 17-5. Emporia State grabbed another run in the sixth on a solo home run by
Joe Daneff. In the seventh, Central Missouri picked up four runs on three hits to increase their lead to 21-6. The final run for the Hornets came on a sacrifice fly by
Dylan Brisbois as Emporia State dropped game one of their weekend series against the second-ranked Mules.
The Hornets tallied eight hits with seven different hitters recording a hit of their own.
TJ Racherbaumer went 2-2 at the plate with a home run.
Konner Hatfield drove in two runs while
Logan Myers,
Dylan Brisbois and
Joe Daneff each had an RBI of their own.
Emporia State takes on #2 Central Missouri in game two of their series on Saturday, April 13 at Trusler Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
