Hornet Baseball Falls 11-7 in Game Two Against #10 Lions

Emporia State unable to contain Missouri Southern on Saturday; Myers with four RBI for the Hornets

March 9, 2024 – Emporia State managed seven runs on ten hits against tenth-ranked Missouri Southern on Saturday but fell 11-7 against the Lions.
 
Emporia State got the scoring started against the Lions as they got a leadoff single from Logan Myers and four walks in the inning, with two drawn by TJ Racherbaumer and Konner Hatfield with the bases loaded to take a 2-0 lead in the first. Missouri Southern responded in the bottom half with four runs on five hits to take a 4-2 lead over the Hornets.
 
The Hornets drew three more walks in the second innings but stranded the bases loaded, still trailing the Lions 4-2. Missouri Southern put together a pair of hits with two outs in the bottom half, as their lead grew to 5-2. Following a scoreless third inning, Emporia State grabbed a run in the fourth on an RBI single from Austin Hamm a to cut the deficit to 5-3.
 
After a second scoreless relief inning from Eli Hernandez, Emporia State put together a four-run rally in the fifth to take a 7-5 lead. Walks from Konner Hatfield and Drew Jennings plus a single from Andrew Rantz loaded the bases for Logan Myers. Following a lion pitching change, Myers lifted a grand slam to right field as the Hornets jumped in front of the Lions. In the bottom half, two hits and two errors allowed the Lions to score three runs and regained an 8-7 advantage.
 
Both teams went scoreless in the sixth before Missouri Southern would grab three more runs in the seventh as their lead increased to 11-7. Emporia State would record a hit in each of the last three innings but were unable to mount a comeback as they fell to #10 Missouri Southern 11-7 on Saturday.
 
Logan Myers, Kadyn Williams and Andrew Rantz each had two hits for the Hornets while Myers had four RBI on his fifth-inning grand slam. Williams reached base five times with two hits and three walks. Austin Hamm, TJ Racherbaumer and Konner Hatfield each had an RBI.
 
The series final will take place on Sunday, March 10 in Joplin, Mo. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
