March 4, 2024 – Emporia State defeated Upper Iowa 12-0 on Monday afternoon from Trusler Sports Complex as eight different Hornets recorded an RBI.
In the top of the first, Upper Iowa applied some pressure to Emporia State starter
Seth Stover, as a fielding error and a single got two runners on with no outs. Stover was able to get a groundout, fielder's choice and finally a strikeout to strand two runners and keep the visiting Peacocks off the board. The Hornets were able to get their first two batters on with a walk from
Logan Myers and a single from
Drew Jennings. Emporia State was unable to push a run across as the game headed to the second inning tied 0-0.
After three straight groundouts from Stover in the top of the second, Emporia State broke the scoreless deadlock in the bottom half. Following a one-out walk by
Dom Oliverio,
Dylan Brisbois delivered a two-run home run to put the Hornets ahead 2-0.
Both teams went scoreless in the third and after another scoreless top of the fourth for Stover, Emporia State put together a ten-run fourth. In the inning,
Logan Myers,
Dom Oliverio and
Konner Hatfield each had two RBI while
Kadyn Williams,
Patryk Hernandez,
TJ Racherbaumer and
Mason Sturdy had one RBI each. Emporia State tallied seven hits, three walks and one hit-by-pitch as their lead expanded to 12-0.
Seth Stover allowed no hits in the over the next two innings to cap off his day with six scoreless innings and four strikeouts.
In the seventh,
Grant Huffman replaced Stover for his first appearance of the season and posted a shutout inning with a strikeout as Emporia State clinched the 12-0 run-rule win over Upper Iowa on Monday afternoon.
Dom Oliverio went 3-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Logan Myers,
Drew Jennings and
Dylan Brisbois each had two hits.
Konner Hatfield went 1-2 with a walk and two RBI.
Seth Stover picked up his second win of the season on the mound.
Emporia State will take on Upper Iowa on Tuesday, March 5 to conclude their five-game homestand. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Glennen Field.
