Emporia State Baseball Drops Series Finale Against Northeastern State

Hornets fall 10-3 against the Riverhawks on Saturday

March 23, 2024 – Emporia State baseball dropped their series final against Northeastern State 10-3 on Saturday afternoon at Glennen Field.

The Riverhawks jumped on the Hornets early, grabbing two runs in each of the first two innings to lead Emporia State 4-0 heading to the third. After Northeastern State went down in order in the third, the Hornets got two hits but were held scoreless in the bottom half. Northeastern State added to their total in the fourth, using two hits to pick two more runs and hold a 6-2 lead over the Hornets.

Emporia State responded in the bottom half, getting two runs of their own on a fielding error and an RBI fielder's choice from Drew Jennings as they trailed 6-2 entering the fifth. In the fifth, the Riverhawks got three more hits, including a two-run home run to as the lead swelled to 9-2. Both teams went scoreless in the sixth and seventh frames before the Riverhawks added one more run to their total in the eighth inning to take a 10-2 lead. The Hornets got one run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single from TJ Racherbaumer, but were unable to mount a comeback as they fell 10-3 in the series finale.

The Hornets were held to seven hits in the game while Mason Sturdy and Kadyn Williams each had two hits. Drew Jennings and TJ Racherbaumer each had an RBI for the Hornets. On the mound, Emporia State had ten strikeouts, with Trent Warstler posting four in two scoreless relief innings and Coby Rogers striking out the side in a scoreless ninth.

Emporia State will return to action on Tuesday, March 26 as they travel to take on Pittsburg State. First pitch in Pittsburg, Kan. is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
