March 19, 2024 – Emporia State baseball was unable to comeback from a 10-2 deficit as the Hornets fell in their midweek matchup against Northwestern Oklahoma 13-8 on Tuesday.
In the first inning after three runs from the Rangers, Emporia State grabbed two runs back on a two RBI single from
Kadyn Williams.
Over the next four innings, Northwestern Oklahoma grabbed seven runs on eight hits, including four home runs as the Rangers led the Hornets 10-2 through the fifth inning. Emporia State grabbed two runs in the sixth on RBI from
Drew Jennings and
Kadyn Williams to cut the Ranger lead to 10-4. After a scoreless inning for Northwestern Oklahoma in the seventh, the Hornets added four more runs in the bottom half. An RBI double from
Konner Hatfield plus another RBI from both
Drew Jennings and
Kadyn Williams brought the Hornets within two runs of the Rangers.
Northwestern Oklahoma was able to get two runs in the eighth and another in the ninth as the lead swelled back to 13-8. Emporia State was unable to get a hit in each of the last two frames as they fell to the Rangers on Tuesday afternoon.
Logan Myers went 2-4 for his sixth multi-hit game this season.
Kadyn Williams went 1-2 with four RBI, his fourth game this season with four or more RBI.
Emporia State returns to MIAA action on Friday, March 22 as they begin a three-game series against Northeastern at Trusler Sports Complex. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
