Lady Hornets Fall To Hot Shooting Bearcats On Wednesday Night

Emporia State drops matchup with Northwest Missouri 86-52; Bearcats make 15 threes

February 7, 2024 – The Lady Hornets were unable to contain the outside shooting of Northwest Missouri as Emporia State fell 86-52 against the Bearcats on Wednesday night from White Auditorium.
 
Northwest Missouri got the game started with four consecutive points before Faith Paramore got the scoring started for the Lady Hornets with a three at the 8:38 mark of the first quarter. The three from Paramore jump started an 8-0 scoring run Emporia State which included five straight points from Gracie Gilpin as the Lady Hornets led 8-4 at the 6:27 mark.
 
Emporia State held the Bearcats to just six points before the media timeout, but Northwest Missouri found a spark offensively, scoring 14 points over the final three and a half minutes, including a trio of threes as the Lady Hornets trailed 20-18 heading into the second.
 
In the second quarter, Northwest Missouri got things started with a 18-6 scoring run as the Bearcats led 38-24 into the second quarter media timeout. Emporia State struggled offensively, shooting just 4-13 from the floor while the Bearcats shot a blistering 11-14 while also outrebounding the Lady Hornets 10-2.
 
The Lady Hornets entered the halftime break trailing the visiting Bearcats 51-30 as Emporia State shot 40% from the floor but were outrebounded by Northwest Missouri 21-9 in the first half.
 
Following the halftime break, both teams saw their field-goal percentage drop as both teams scored 15 points in the third quarter. Northwest Missouri maintained their 21-point lead heading into the fourth.
 
In the fourth, the Lady Hornets kept the Bearcats below 40% shooting but struggled offensively, managing just two field goals on 2-17 shooting in the final period as Emporia State fell to Northwest Missouri 86-52 on Wednesday night in White Auditorium.
 
As a team, the Lady Hornets shot 17-55 and just 7-26 from three and were outrebounded 47-25 by the Bearcats.
 
Faith Paramore led the Lady Hornets with 21 points and added a team-high six rebounds. Gracie Gilpin joined Paramore in double figures with 13 points and went 3-7 from three.
 
Emporia State will return to action on Saturday, February 10 against Missouri Western. Game time against the Griffons is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. from White Auditorium.
