Balanced Scoring Leads to 86-63 Emporia State win over Sterling

Three Hornets in double figures, seven with at least eight points in win

December 17, 2024-Emporia State used a balanced scoring effort on the way to an 86-63 win over Sterling on Tuesday night in White Auditorium. Ten Hornets scored at least three points with seven scoring at least eight points.
 
The Warriors scored the first four points of the game and led 6-4 with 17:41 left in the opening half.  Emporia State would hold Sterling without a field goal for the next 5:43 as they went on an 18-2 run to take a 22-8 lead with 12:21 left.  The Warriors closed back to with ten points with 11:37 remaining before the Hornets went on a 14-3 run to take a 36-15 lead with 7:15 left.  Malik Edwards Jr. scored on back to back possessions to give Emporia State a 47-22 lead with 1:44 left and the teams traded scores to go to the half with the Hornets holding a 25 point lead.
 
Emporia State shot 56.8% from the field in the opening 20 minutes while holding Sterling to just 37% shooting.  The Hornets were six of 11 from the three-point line in the first half.
 
After a pair of Sterling free throws to open the second half, Brayson Laube hit a three-pointer to give Emporia State their biggest lead of the night at 52-26 with 19:17 left.  The Warriors used a 12-2 run to get back within 16 points with 16:23 remaining before Chris Harris hit a three-pointer to start a 7-0 Hornet run and push the back over 20 points.  Sterling would not get closer than 17 points the rest of the game.
 
Arhman Lewis had 16 points and six assists to lead three Hornets in double figures.  Karyiek Dixon had 11 points and nine rebounds while Parker Day added ten points with six rebounds.  Malik Edwards scored nine points while Chris Harris, Justin Mack and Devin Conley all scored eight points.  Donald Coats III scored seven points and had a team high 11 rebounds.
 
Emporia State is back in action on Friday night when they play host to Rockhurst.  Tip-off from White Auditorium is set for 5:00 p.m.
