Lady Hornets Struggle Offensively In Loss Against Lions

Emporia State drops sunday matinee 76-43 against Missouri Southern

January 21, 2024 – Emporia State struggled offensively in their home matchup against Missouri Southern as the Lady Hornets fell to the visiting Lions 76-43.
 
Emporia State got the game started with the first five points on a pair of Faith Paramore free throws and a three from Gracie Gilpin in the opening minute. Missouri Southern responded with a 20-8 scoring run that lasted until the 1:48 mark of the quarter as the Lions led the Lady Hornets 20-13.
 
The Lady Hornets closed the quarter on a 6-2 scoring run highlighted by back-to-back threes from Faith Paramore to give the senior 11 first quarter points.
 
In the second quarter, Emporia State struggled offensively, shooting just 2-14 from the floor as the Lions outscored the Lady Hornets 15-5 as the visitors took a 37-24 lead into the halftime break.
 
Emporia State shot 5-9 from three in the first quarter but just 1-5 in the second.
 
Following the halftime break, the offensive struggles for the Lady Hornets continued as they shot just 5-14 and 1-6 from three. The Lions used the cold shooting from Emporia State to outscore the hosts 22-13 in the third quarter as their lead expanded to 59-37 heading into the final frame.
 
Missouri Southern outscored the Lady Hornets 17-6 in the fourth as Emporia State fell to the Lions 76-43 on Sunday afternoon from White Auditorium.
 
As a team, Emporia State shot 23.4% from the floor and 26.7% from three while shooting 5-12 from the free throw line.
 
Faith Paramore led the Lady Hornets with 20 points and added 11 rebounds, recording her eighth double-double of the season.
 
The Lady Hornets will begin a four-game road trip beginning against Nebraska-Kearney. The game against the Lopers is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 25 from Kearney, Neb.
