Lady Hornets Drop Road Matchup Against #17 Jennies

Emporia State falls 81-55 against Central Missouri; outscored 50-28 in second half

January 13, 2024 – The Lady Hornets fell 81-55 against #17 Central Missouri as Emporia State was outscored 50-28 in the second half in the road matchup on Saturday afternoon against the Jennies.
 
Central Missouri scored on the opening possession of the game before a three from Aliyah Bello gave the Lady Hornets a 3-2 advantage. The Jennies outscored Emporia State 11-2 over the next seven minutes, building a 13-5 lead with 2:51 remaining in the first quarter.
 
Over the final two and a half minutes of the quarter, Katie Horyna scored the final seven points for the Lady Hornets, helping to trim the Jennies' lead to 15-12 by the end of the first.
 
The Jennies scored the first four points of the second quarter before Emporia State put together a 13-2 scoring run which was capped off by a three from Macy Smith, giving the Lady Hornets a 25-21 lead with 3:34 left in the first half.
 
Central Missouri following the Emporia State scoring run with one of their own, a 10-2 run to end the first half as the Jennies led the Lady Hornets 31-27 entering the halftime break.
 
Following the halftime break, the Lady Hornets were kept at arm's length by the Jennies, as Emporia State was never able to trim the lead below three points throughout the quarter. Central Missouri used an 11-4 scoring run that built a 54-43 lead over Emporia State with 33 seconds remaining in the quarter, the largest advantage in the third for the Jennies.
 
In the fourth quarter Emporia State managed just one field goal as the #17 Jennies pulled away, leading by as much as 27 points as the Lady Hornets fell 81-55 against Central Missouri.
 
Katie Horyna led the Lady Hornets with 16 points on 6-10 shooting while adding seven assists. Gracie Gilpin scored 12 points and Queen Ulabo scored seven points with nine rebounds.
 
Emporia State will return to action on Wednesday, January 17 as they return to White Auditorium to host Pittsburg State. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
