September 8, 2023-Emporia State ended Friday at the Missouri S&T Classic with a 3-0 sweep of Kentucky Wesleyan. With the win the Hornets improved to 5-2 on the season, their best start after seven matches since opening the 2013 season with wins in six of their first seven matches.

After the Panthers scored the first point of the opening set, Emporia State reeled off five straight points to take the lead for good. They would push the lead to 18-6 on an ace from
Anakaren Chavez before coasting to the 25-14 win.

The second set had ten ties and six lead changes, the majority coming in the first 22 points of the set. With the score tied at 11, Kentucky Wesleyan went on an 8-2 run to take their biggest lead of the night at 19-13. After a timeout the Hornets finished the set on a 12-2 run to win the second set 25-21.

Emporia State jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the third set only to see KWC answer with an 8-2 run of their own. From that point on the Hornets would score 18 of the last 23 points for the 25-15 match clinching victory.

Emporia State was again led by
Sandora Sasaki with 12 kills on .269 hitting.Â
Lillian Zeigler had five kills on just seven attempts while
McKenya Sorrells and
Camilla Ossola each had six kills.Â
Brailee Bogle dished 28 assists and a team high eight digs.

Emporia State will be back in action on Saturday against Union University at 2:00 p.m.in their final match of the tournament.

Sasaki has opened the season with seven straight double figure kill matches. It is the longest such streak by a Hornet since Carly Spicer hit double figure in the first eighth matches of the 2014 season  Â
