September 24, 2023 – Emporia State tallied ten shots and five attempts on goal as they fell to Fort Hays State 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Fort Hays State applied pressure to the Hornets early in the game as they earned a corner in the third minute which led to the opening goal of the match. The Tigers scored just past three minutes into the match to take a 1-0 lead over Emporia State.
The first shot for the Hornets would come from
Abby Bachman four minutes and the first attempt on goal came from
Angela Palmer just under the ten-minute mark.
The match continued in back-and-forth fashion before the Tigers would strike for their second which came in the 27
th minute as the Hornets fell behind 2-0.
Emporia State withstood pressure from Fort Hays State for the remainder of the half as the wind kept the Hornets in their defensive end.
In the first half, the Tigers outshot the Hornets 8-5 and held a 2-0 lead.
Following the halftime break, the Tigers got off to a similar start to the beginning of the match as they scored their third goal just three minutes into the second half as the Hornets trailed 3-0 in the 48
th minute.
The second half was hotly contested between both teams which included three yellow cards handed out. Emporia State was able to break through for a goal in the 66
th minute. The Hornets played a ball into the Fort Hays State and the ball bounced around before
Hannah Woolery scored on an assist from
Angela Palmer to make the score 3-1.
The Hornets were only able generate one more shot as they fell to Fort Hays State 3-1.
Hannah Woolery scored her second goal of the season and
Angela Palmer recorded her first assist.
Emporia State will return to action on Friday, September 29 as they take on Northeastern State. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
