SHOW ME MIAA ROAD TRIP
Emporia State travels to the Show Me State for a pair of road MIAA matchups against Central Missouri and Missouri Southern.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets opened MIAA play with home matches against Fort Hays State and #7 Nebraska-Kearney. Emporia State took down the Tigers in three sets before falling to the Lopers in three sets from White Auditorium.

THE COACHES
Ken Murczek is 7-3 in his first season at ESU. Murczek is coming off great success at NAIA Oregon Tech where he brought the Owls to their first National Tournament in school history. Murczek is no stranger to the big stage, as he has coached at the NCAA I level, with head coaching tenures at Wake Forest and North Texas, along with multiple assistant positions including the University of Kansas.
Caitlin Peterson is 24-16 in her second season at UCM. She is 2-0 against the Hornets.
Kalie Mader is 47-101 in her sixth season at MSSU. She is 4-3 against the Hornets.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 7-3 through the first ten matches of the season and 1-1 through the first weekend of MIAA action. The seven wins for Emporia State are the most in a season since 2018 as they look keep their early momentum moving forward. The Hornet attack is led by Sandora Sasaki who has 142 kills with 4.18 kills per set. Sasaki's total of 142 kills leads the MIAA. McKenya Sorrells also has over two kills per set with 57 total kills and 2.11 per set. Brailee Bogle has made a strong impact in her first season with the Hornets as she has 318 assists with 9.35 assists per set which ranks fifth in the MIAA. 

SCOUTING THE JENNIES
Central Missouri  is currently receiving votes in the AVCA poll and are 5-5 on the season with a 2-0 start in the MIAA. The Jennies are coming off a 19-11 season in 2022 with a 14-6 record in the MIAA. They have three players with over two kills per set and are led by Kersti Nix who has tallied 156 kills with 3.63 kills per set. At setter, Olivia Olson has 422 assists and 9.81 assists per set which ranks third in the MIAA.

Central Missouri leads the all-time series 59-6 over Emporia State.

SCOUTING THE LIONS
Missouri Southern is 8-3 this season and 1-1 in the MIAA and are off to one of their strongest starts to a season in several years. Fernando Canedo leads the Lions in attack with 136 kills and 3.49 kills per set. Amelia Neels and Kyra Thomas also have over two kills per set. Missouri Southern operates with a pair of setters as Hannah Allick and Landrey VanOverschelde combined for over 11 assists per set.

Emporia State leads the all-time series 51-33 over Missouri Southern.

The Hornets will return home for a pair of MIAA matches against Northwest Missouri, who is currently ranked in the top 25, and Missouri Western. Emporia State will take on the Bearcats on Friday, Sep. 29 from White Auditorium.
