April 28, 2023 – Emporia State was unable to keep pace with Central Oklahoma as the Hornets dropped game one of the series against the Bronchos 10-3 on Friday evening from Glennen Field.
Both teams found their way on to the scoreboard in the first inning behind a pair of hits. With two outs in the top of the first, the Bronchos struck with a double from Kaleb Glass to put Central Oklahoma ahead 1-0.
Kadyn Williams led of the bottom half with his first of two hits on the afternoon as he singled to left center. Following the first out of the inning, Williams advanced to second a wild pitch before scoring on an RBI double from
Noah Geekie as the Hornets tied the game 1-1 through the first frame.
Emporia State starting pitcher
Graham Brunner started the second inning with a strikeout but allowed a pair of hits and the second run of the game for Central Oklahoma.
Following a scoreless bottom half of the second inning for the Hornets, Central Oklahoma tallied two more runs as they built a 4-1 lead over Emporia State.
In the bottom half,
Kase Johnson got the inning started with a double down the left field line.
Kadyn Williams followed Johnson with a two-run home run, his seventh of the season, as Emporia State trimmed the Bronchos lead to 4-3 through three innings.
Over the final six innings, Emporia State was held in check at the plate as they were held scoreless and limited to just one hit for the remainder of the game.
Central Oklahoma would tally six more runs, including three in the fifth and two in the seventh as they built a 10-3 lead over the Hornets.
Emporia State recorded two base runners in their final at-bat as
Andrew Rantz and
TJ Racherbaumer each drew a walk, but the Hornets were retired as they fell to the Bronchos 10-3 in game one of the series.
Kadyn Williams and
Noah Geekie each went 2-5 from the plate as Williams had a home run, two RBI and two runs scored.
Emporia State will take on Central Oklahoma in game two of the series on Saturday, April 29. First pitch from Glennen Field is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
