April 21, 2023 – Emporia State struggled offensively as they were limited to three hits as the Hornets dropped the first game of the series against Missouri Western 10-1.
The Hornets started the game on the front foot as
Noah Geekie retired the Griffons in order in the top of the first before Emporia State took a 1-0 lead through the first inning.
With one out,
Chandler Bloomer hit his fourth home run of the season on the first pitch of the at-bat to put the Hornets ahead.
Missouri Western responded with three runs in the second as they took a 3-1 lead over Emporia State.
Emporia State was retired in order in both the second and the third inning before the Griffons added four runs to their total in the fourth.
Four hits and an error allowed Missouri Western to build a 7-1 lead over the Hornets.
In the bottom half,
TJ Racherbaumer and
Mason Sturdy both reached base with two outs, but Emporia State was again held scoreless.
Both teams were held without a run until the top of the sixth as the Griffons added to their total with an RBI fielder's choice to take an 8-1 lead.
TJ Racherbaumer reached base for the second time with a two-out double to right field in the bottom of the sixth but was left stranded.
Missouri Western tallied a lone run in both the seventh and eighth inning as they led 10-1 over the Hornets.
Emporia State was held scoreless for the remainder of the game and fell 10-1 against Missouri Western on Friday evening from Glennen Field.
Chandler Bloomer,
TJ Racherbaumer and
Brenden Tauber each tallied one hit of their own while Bloomer had a solo home run and
TJ Racherbaumer had a walk and a double.
Emporia State will be back in action on Saturday, April 22 in game two of the three-game slate against Missouri Western. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. from Glennen Field.
