April 14, 2023 – Emporia State struggled offensively as they managed just four hits against Washburn and fell 10-0 in eight innings in game one of the series.
The Hornets were retired in order in the first inning before the Ichabods pushed across four runs in the first one four hits.
Emporia State recorded their first hit with a one-out single from
Mason Sturdy in the second but the Hornets were left scoreless.
Washburn added a single run in the second inning before scoring two more in the third as they built a seven-run advantage over the Hornets.
Both teams were held scoreless through the middle innings as
Cade Barton took the mound late in the third inning and tallied 4.1 innings pitched and held the Ichabods scoreless on four hits through the seventh frame.
In the eighth, the Hornets were held without a baserunner before the Ichabods rallied for four consecutive hits which resulted in three runs as Emporia State fell 10-0 in eight innings in game one of the Turnpike Tussle series.
Emporia State was limited to just four hits as
Kadyn Williams,
Noah Geekie,
Mason Sturdy and
TJ Racherbaumer each recorded one of their own.
The Hornets will take on the Ichabods in game two of the series on Saturday, April 15 from Falley Field in Topeka, Kan. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
