HOME WEEKEND
Emporia State will play host to Neb.-Kearney and Fort Hays State in women's action at the Kossover Family Tennis Complex this weekend. The men's scheduled meet with Southeastern Oklahoma has been canceled due to a lack of players for the Savage Storm.
 
LAST SETS
Emporia State opened MIAA play with a 7-0 loss at Missouri Western on Friday afternoon. 
The Hornets duo of Alexia Desmet and Karen Santiago were trailing 3-2 at #1 doubles but their match went unfinished as the Griffons won 6-0 at both #2 and #3 to take the doubles point.
Emporia State was then swept in single play. Desmet and Karen Santiago had the best showing in the singles competition. Desmet fell 6-4, 6-2 at #! While Karen Santiago lost 6-2, 6-3 at #3 singles.

THE COACH
Former Hornet CeCe Peyroche is the interim coach for Emporia State following the retirement of coach Les Stafford in December. She is 5-5 with the men's team and 2-7 in women's action. Peyroche was 23-15 in singles play during her three years as a Hornet before moving into the graduate assistant position last year.  

A LOOK AT THE HORNETS
The Hornet women are 2-7 overall and 0-1 in the MIAA this year. They have had some success at the top of the order in singles, going a combined 13-13 in the top three singles positions. Alexia Desmet is 3-3 overall with a 2-3 mark at #1 and a 1-0 record in the #2 position.  Angelina Gnezdilova is 4-5 overall with a 2-2 mark at the top of the line-up, 1-3 at #2 and 1-0 at #3. Karen Santiago is 4-4 overall with a 2-1 mark at #2 singles and a 2-3 record at the #3 spot.  Paige Stranghoner has gone 2-1 at #3 and is 4-4 overall.
Emporia State is also 4-4 at the #1 spot in doubles play. Desmet and Gnezdilova are 2-4 at #1 while Paige Stranghoner is 2-0 in the #1 doubles position partnering with Karen Santiago and Desmet once.

KNOW THE FOE
Neb.-Kearney is 10-8 overall and 1-2 in the MIAA.
Fort Hays State is 5-6 overall and 0-2 in the MIAA heading into this weekend's action.

NEXT SERVE
Emporia State travels to Topeka to take on Washburn in the tennis edition of the Turnpike Tussle. First serve from the Washburn Tennis Complex is set for 1:00 p.m.
