Hornet men win, women fall to Roadrunners

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 March 2, 2023-The Emporia State tennis teams split a pair of matches against Metro State-Denver on Thursday at the Kossover Family Tennis Complex.  The Hornet women started the day with a 4-3 loss to the Roadrunners while the men wrapped up the day with a 4-2 victory.
 
Women
In a back and forth dual for the women, MSU-Denver started out with a 1-0 lead after doubles. The Roadrunners won 6-2 at #1 doubles while Andrea Santiago and Caroline Henry won 6-3 at #2 doubles. MSU-Denver took the point with a 6-2 win at #3.
Angelina Gnezdlova evened things with a 6-2, 6-3 win at #2 singles before Alexia Desmet gave the Hornets the lead with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 win in the #1 position.  Paige Stranghoner made it 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at #3.  The Roadrunners evened things with wins at #4 and #5 before taking a 7-5, 6-4 win at #6 to clinch the dual.

Men
The Hornets dropped the doubles point to start the dual. The Roadrunners won at #2 and #3 while Theo Belmonte and Sergio Vera picked up a 6-4 win at #1 doubles.
Dominik Simunovic won 6-2, 6-4 at #1 singles to even things for ESU before MSU-Denver picked up a win at #2. The Hornets took the lead with a pair of tight matches at #3 and #4 singles. Vera won 6-3, 7-6 (3) at #4 and Belmonte took a 7-6, 1-6, 10-8 win at #3 to give Emporia State a 3-2 lead.  Harrison Brown closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #5 as the teams played to clinch to finish the 12 hour day at the Kossover Center.
