Hornet Baseball Falls to Central Missouri on Friday

Emporia State drops game one of weekend series 10-4 to Mules

March 10, 2023 – Emporia State fell in game one of their weekend series against Central Missouri 10-4 on Friday evening from Glennen Field.

Central Missouri opened the scoring with a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the first as the Mules took a 2-0 lead over the Hornets.

Kadyn Williams led off the bottom of the first inning with a single but the Hornets were held scoreless in the first frame.

The Mules would added five more runs in the top of the third inning, and four more with two outs as they led Emporia State 7-0 entering the bottom of the third inning.

The first extra-base hit of the game for Emporia State came in the third inning as Brenden Tauber doubled down the left field line with one out. The Hornets were unable to convert as they still trailed 7-0 through three innings.

Central Missouri built their largest lead in the fifth inning as they added two runs to take a 9-0 lead over the Hornets.

Emporia State scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth as Andrew Rantz hit a solo home run to make the score 9-1 through five innings.

Following a scoreless sixth inning by both teams, Emporia State would trim the deficit down to 9-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning. The first run of the inning was driven in by a bunt single by Brenden Tauber with the bases loaded. Later in the inning, the Hornets would strike with two outs as Palmer Hutchison singled into left field to drive in two runs.

In the eighth inning, Central Missouri scored a lone run to take a 10-4 lead over the Hornets that would hold for the remainder of the game.

Five different Hornets recorded a hit with Brenden Tauber going 2-4 with a double and an RBI.

Emporia State will return to action on Saturday, March 11 for game two of the series against Central Missouri. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
