Lady Hornets Fall in Road Matchup to Griffons

Emporia State defeated 76-60 by Missouri Western; Jobe leads all scorers with 26 points

February 4, 2023 – Emporia State struggled offensively on Saturday afternoon in a road matchup against Missouri Western as they shot 34.3% from the floor in a 76-60 defeat to the Griffons.

The Lady Hornets opened the scoring from St. Joseph, Mo. with a second chance basket from Audrey Beaty on the opening possession. Following the basket from Beaty,
Missouri Western put together an 11-2 scoring that lasted until the four minute mark of the first quarter.

Tre'Zure Jobe snapped the scoring run with her first points of the game to make the score 11-6 with 3:42 remaining in the first quarter.

The Griffons were able to close the quarter on a 10-2 run following the basket from Jobe as they led the Lady Hornets 21-8 after one quarter.

Emporia State continued to early in the second quarter as they took until the 5:34 mark of the quarter to score when Faith Paramore scored a turnaround jump shot. The offense picked up for the Lady Hornets over the final five and a half minutes as they scored 16 points in the quarter but were unable to slow down the Griffons.

Missouri Western built a 45-24 lead entering the halftime break as they shot nearly 50% in the first half.

At the half, Victoria Price led the Lady Hornets with 10 points while Tre'Zure Jobe added 8 points of her own.

Following the halftime break, the Lady Hornets traded points with the Griffons for much of the third quarter but were able to cut into the Missouri Western lead. Emporia State put together a 7-0 scoring run that lasted nearly five minutes as they cut the Griffon lead to 11, 52-41, with 50 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Missouri Western would score the final four points of the third quarter as they reestablished a 15-point advantage over the Lady Hornets entering the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Emporia State was unable to trim down the deficit to single digits as they were unable to limit the Griffons on the offensive end. Tre'Zure Jobe scored 13 of 19 Lady Hornet points in the quarter but the Lady Hornets fell to Missouri Western 76-60 on Saturday afternoon.

Tre'Zure Jobe led all scorers with 26 points while also tying Victoria Price with a team-high 7 rebounds. Price added to her 7 rebounds with 16 points of her own while Jobe and Price were joined in double figures by Ehlaina Hartman who scored 10.

The Lady Hornets will return home next weekend for a single home game against Newman on Saturday, February 11. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 1:30 p.m. from White Auditorium.
