Box Score November 6, 2023 – Emporia State fell in the Turnpike Tussle 3-1 against Washburn on Monday night from Lee Arena in Topeka, Kan.
Through the four sets, the Hornets managed to hit just .197 against the Ichabods while Washburn put together a steady attack that hit .374 in the match.
In the first set, Emporia State struggled from the start as Washburn jumped out to an 11-1 lead that they used to propel themselves to a 25-15 win over the Hornets in the first set.
The Hornets managed to rebound in set two. Emporia State and Washburn found the set tied at 20-20 before the Hornets scored five of the final six points on their way to a 25-21 win in set two to tie the match 1-1.
Emporia State fell behind Washburn in a similar fashion to the first set in both set three and four. The early lead for the Ichabods helped to secure the third set 25-16 and the fourth set 25-18 as the Hornets fell to the Ichabods 3-1 on Monday night.
Sandora Sasaki posted a match-high 19 kills on the night while
Tasiah Nunnery and
McKenya Sorrells had ten and nine kills respectively.
Brailee Bogle had 33 assists while
Ainslee Stepp tallied nine.
Emporia State will conclude the regular season on Thursday, November 9 as they travel to take on Newman. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. from Wichita, Kan.
